The project strengthened and expanded the capacity of the Government of Burkina
Faso to train agricultural personnel at all levels of the agricultural extension system
with particular emphasis on professional and mid-level training. By expanding the
practical training facilities at both the university and vocational levels, and providing
US training programs to Burkinabe participants, the project increased the skills and
knowledge of staff at all levels of the agricultural extension system. Additionally, the
program increased the responsiveness of extension services and the quality of
information and outputs provided to farmers.

The project improved the government's capacity to manage and maintain the
agricultural extension service through curriculum refinement, staff development,
expansion of facilities at existing training centers, building of new training centers,
including practical agricultural training facilities, and long-term participant training.
Twenty participants from Burkina Faso received Masters degrees at SECID member
universities through sponsorship provided by this project.
