Smallholder Production Preparation

SECID developed a strategy for increasing the agricultural productivity of
smallholders, designed a project to implement that strategy, and brought
previously constructed agricultural research and training facilities to an
efficient operational level. Consulting services employed included:

• Livestock and seed surveys;
• Agricultural project design;
• The introduction of new food crops;
• Fertilizer experimentation;
• Fonio/sorghum mini-kit development and distribution;
• Meteorological monitoring;
• Land use planning;
• Grassland experimentation;
• Socioeconomic surveys; and
• The training of extension workers.
