Food Crop Research

This project expanded and strengthened the Seychelles Ministry of Agriculture's ability to conduct applied and adaptive food crop research, extend the results of this research to smallholder farmers, and protect agricultural initiatives from diseases and pests. Project activities included:

  • Technical assistance in horticulture, plant pathology, entomology, soil science, crop production, and the introduction of new plant and fruit varieties;
  • Training of Ministry of Agriculture staff and extension personnel;
  • Establishing on-farm demonstrations;
  • Research laboratory planning;
  • Development of a technical library and information services; and
  • Preparation of instructional and audio-visual materials.
