Degree Training for Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Aceh
Funding source: USK/Asian Development Bank

SECID was awarded a $1.8 million contract by USK to serve as a training provider
to manage the Overseas Degree Training Program under the Technological and
Professional Skills Development Sector Project, financed by ADB.

In facing the needs of economic recovery from the current economic and political
crisis, Indonesia is very much in need of extensive capacity building programs in
all fields of nation building. One of the major demands is in the field of education.

SECID, working with USK, is overseeing the degree program for 30 USK faculty
that have been selected as candidates for degree programs. Twenty-two faculty
will pursue a Ph.D. degree while the other eight will pursue Masters Degrees in
various disciplines including computer science, statistics, mathematics, geophysics,
and transportation planning. SECID will identify suitable programs at overseas
universities, facilitate, manage and accelerate placement of participants, implement
administrative procedures, provide guidance during the pre-departure, program
study and return phases, prepare and provide progress and final reports to the
project management unit. As part of this program, SECID has formed strategic
partnerships with universities in the US, Europe, and Australia.
