Earthquake and Tsunami Emergency Support Project:
Information Support for Management of Aceh’s Forest Resources
Funding source: Asian Development Bank

The project will establish an information system to support forest management
as well as outline forest zoning recommendations and alternatives in Nangrroe Aceh
Darussalam (NAD). It will develop a decision support system for forest management
resources to reduce degradation and maintain the services. It will integrate, improve
or strengthen information systems already developed to support forest management.

Further, the project will create a GIS-based forestry information system that will
(1) develop a baseline information concerning forests and other natural resources;
(2) serve as a tool to support forest management, including the implementation and
enforcement of forestry-related laws and regulations; (3) assess land suitability and
current land use of current and planned forest management policies, plans, and
programs; and (4) build capacity within key technical positions to provide a sustainable
ongoing information system. In the longer term this forestry information system could
become an integrated part of a provincial natural resources management program
that also encompasses fisheries, agriculture, mining and the environment.
