The general aim of this technical assistance was to prepare a detailed proposal
for the development of an improved and integrated campus of the University of
Sriwijaya (UNSRI) on a new site at Inderlaya. Project activities focused on the
development of specialized buildings, and equipment covering the teaching
requirements of the main subject areas. Specific technical assistance to the
Government of Indonesia included a review of the role of UNSRI within the
national framework for education.
In addition, SECID consultants evaluated the suitability of facility plans to meet
present and future needs of higher education in the region, based on the master
academic plans of the University, regian and nation. Consultants paid particular
attention to
the phasing of the transfer of operations from present sites to the
new campus to ensure a smooth transition and meet growth projections.
The final report reviewed the development plans in relation to the projected power
requirements at the national and regional levels; examined the suitability of the new
site at Inderlaya for the development of INSRI; assessed the physical development
plans prepared by the government as the basis for accommodating UNSRI on its new
site, including the expansion of each faculty; and recommended changes in curricula,
teaching methods, and teaching aids.
Phase two of the project involved the implementation of the recommendations
of this project.
