Natural Resource Management Project

Project staff aided the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
in the preparation of conservation and management plans for residual forests;
implemented a community forestry program and assisted in the preservation
of old growth forests. SECID also provided support to key government institutions
and training for regional and provincial office staff in the areas of administration,
program planning, implementation, monitoring, financial management; and aided
in the design and implementation of a comprehensive communications, information,
training and education program. The project had four major components:

• Policy reforms to increase efficiency in the natural resource sector;
• Resource protection for the conservation of biological diversity;
• Sustainable management of natural resources; and
• Ongoing support services which allow for the provision of technical
  assistance to government officials and institutions.
