Forest and Parks Protection Technical Assistance
Funding source: Government of Haiti/The World Bank

The Government of Haiti selected SECID to:

  • Provide technical assistance in implementing development programs in
    the buffer zone around three protected areas, two national parks (La
    Visite and Pic Macaya) and one indigenous natural forest (Forêt des Pins);
  • Provide institutional strengthening services to various departments within
    the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Through proper development and sound land management practices in these
zones, the project contributed to the protection of the remaining 32,000 ha. of
native forests in and around national parks
. The SECID team implementing the
project comprised faculty and specialists from the Tuskegee University,
Lincoln University, Auburn University, and the University of Puerto Rico.
