New Initiative for Leadership in Egypt (NILE)

Formerly the Egyptian Women's Leadership Network for Civil Society and Business,
the NILE project is working to build the capacity and participation levels of women
in civil society and business organizations in Egypt. Additionally, the project is
creating a civil society and business network to demonstrate a model and build
women's participation as leaders in Egyptian society for replication throughout the
region. Major components of the project include:
- Awareness Raising: conducting outreach to raise awareness of
corporate-community engagement, targeting senior Egyptian women
executives, business owners and professionals;
- Community Leadership Training: training community leaders to build
capacity and initiate cross-sectoral dialogues using a community
leadership curriculum adapted to Egypt's specific context and needs;
- Women Leaders Master Class: conduct a women's leadership master class
for 25 senior women leaders from business and civil society, linking senior
Egyptian women leaders with counterparts around the world;
- Business Volunteer Programs: match business volunteers to local civil
society organizations and community projects, conducting a minimum
of three training programs in volunteering, and conducting pre and post
training work;
- Board Recruitment and Training: recruit/train business leaders to serve
on non-profit boards to strengthen governance capacity and strengthening
at least 15 non-profit boards; and
- Leadership Foundation Development: lay the groundwork for community
foundations to build future community initiatives throughout the Arab world.
