Center for Women in Development
Funding source: USAID
SECID established the Center for Women in Development to increase general
awareness of the problems facing and potential roles of women in the development
process, both as agents of change and beneficiaries. The Center engaged in a wide
range of activities in the areas of international and domestic projects, training, and
institutional development. Through the Center's direction, SECID and its member
institutions achieved an impressive record of attentiveness to women in development
issues, including greater involvement by local women in the development projects
that partner institutions implemented. Although the Center no longer exists, the
project laid the groundwork for the inclusion of women's voices in the development
dialogue. Additionally, through SECID's involvement with this project, we have
incorporated gender-based perspectives into all of our development projects.
