Prosperity, Livlelihoods and Conserving Ecosystems (PLACE) IQC

This contract supports USAID Biodiversity Conservation and Natural
Resources Management activities consistent with the new U.S. Framework
for Foreign Assistance. Within this context, the contract supports the Natural
Resources Management Office’s (EGAT/NRM) Strategic Objective (SO)
“Increased social, economic and environmental benefits through healthy
ecosystems and sustainable resource management” and four Intermediate
Results (IRs) associated with this SO:

  • IR1: Improving management and conservation across diverse
    landscapes through science, interdisciplinary approaches and the
    adoption of best practices;
  • IR2: Promoting equitable natural resources governance and
    management of natural resource conflicts;
  • IR3: Increasing economic opportunities through sustainable production,
    marketing and trade of natural resource-based products and services; and
  • IR4: Strengthening USAID operating units and partners through field
    support, technical leadership and knowledge management.

The technical expertise that will be made available to USAID Missions under
PLACE Task Orders includes: natural resource management, biodiversity
conservation (terrestrial, freshwater and marine), sustainable forestry,
sustainable tourism, ecologically sustainable agriculture, and provision of
ecosystem services.

Additional effort will be directed to improving NRM and biodiversity conservation
in the following areas: natural resource governance and policy reform; resource
and property rights, capacity building, institutional strengthening and capacity
building, enterprise development, sustainable finance, conflict mitigation and
management, and gender and strengthening disadvantaged groups.
