about Egypt | mission statement
USEF's mission is to increase understanding and awareness in the U.S. of
contemporary Egypt and to promote
greater appreciation of the importance
of strong U.S.-Egypt relations. Despite its importance to the geo-politics of
the Middle East, North Africa, and the Muslim world as a whole, much about
modern-day Egypt is little known or
misunderstood in the United States. USEF
tackles this problem by working to promote a broader and more
balanced
understanding of Egypt in the U.S. To achieve this, USEF organizes regular
programs on social, economic, political,
and cultural developments in Egypt
today and in recent history. Programming includes the sponsorship of lectures,
seminars, conferences, art exhibitions, performances, and films. Over time,
USEF intends to expand its efforts to
include the development of materials
and programs for students and teachers. USEF's programs are directed to
public- and private-sector leaders, educators, business executives, the
media, non-governmental organizations,
and the interested public.
USEF's function is purely educational and informational. It takes no policy
positions, nor does it engage in
lobbying or advocacy. It seeks a range of
viewpoints on key issues affecting U.S.-Egyptian relations, and it
always
encourages lively debate. USEF works to encourage closer economic, social,
and political ties between
our countries, and it offers regular opportunities for
leading members of our business, government, and
professional communities
to exchange views and forge closer relations. It will not directly promote or
support specific business ventures, however. USEF will seek tax-deductible
contributions from
membership fees
and foundations, corporations, and
individuals who believe in the mandate of the Society. |
